Developing a toolkit that self advocates can use to check if projects deliver what they promise

The project is coproduced in partnership with All Wales People First (AWPF), Barod Community Interest Company and researchers Dr Bryan Collis and Janet Bardsley.

The project will include people with learning difficulties and other stakeholders in developing an easy to use toolkit to evaluate self advocacy projects across Wales.  The project will be informed by a Reference Group.

The Reference Group will be chaired by a disabled person and will include representation from the Welsh Government, Welsh Local Authorities, self advocacy projects, commissioners of services and funders.

Young people and friendships – what matters to us?

The research project will explore with young disabled people aged 14 – 25 years living in South East Wales how patterns of friendship change between school, college, post – education, term – time and holidays.  The project will also explore – What helps and hinders friendships to form and be maintained? How are friendships linked to participation within community activities? Are young disabled people at risk of social isolation – what contributes to isolation and what can relieve it?

The project is coproduced in partnership with C.A.R.P. Collaborations and the Building Bridges Project.

Does it matter? Decision-making by people with learning disabilities

This project is about people with learning disabilities in Scotland.  In particular, it is about those who are judged to lack capacity, and who have someone substituted for them in decision making, despite having an ability to make some decisions.  The project explores how supported decision making can be designed to replace substitute decision making.  This introduces the idea of autonomous decision making in line with a human rights approach.
